Frequently asked questions
- How is weight on other planets calculated?
- Weight equals mass times surface gravity. Your mass stays the same, so weight on another body is your Earth weight multiplied by the ratio of that body's gravity to Earth's gravity (9.807 m/s²).
- Why is my weight different on Jupiter and the Moon?
- Jupiter has much stronger surface gravity (about 2.5× Earth), so you weigh more. The Moon's gravity is about 17% of Earth's, so you weigh much less there.
- Does this use mass or weight?
- You enter your everyday Earth weight. The calculator treats that as your mass in kg (standard for planet weight tools) and scales it by each body's gravity to show what you would weigh there.
- Which celestial bodies are included?
- Mercury, Venus, Earth, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and the Sun, using NASA planetary fact sheet surface gravity values.
